Hairdresser's Alliance for Youth
PARTNERS FOR PREVENTION IN
ALLEGANY COUNTY
How do I get involved?
We will send you a memorandum of understanding
where we agree to support one another and to meet kids
where they are at, encouraging them to make good
decisions, and promote drug free communities.  You send
it back in and we put your name up on the website.

What are we required to do?
Start talking & listening just like you already do!  You
don't have to attend meetings, although you are most
welcome!  You just have to continue to do what you do
so well... connect with your clients, especially young
people and parents.

Let them know you care about them, and encourage
them not to drink or do drugs, not to host underage
drinking parties, and offer pamphlets with resources on
them in case you run across someone who needs a little
more help.   You can help point them in the right
direction.

Be sure to have your facts straight though!  Don't pass
inaccurate information.  Come here to our website and
look around...visit other links, and get to know the
issues.

KNOW YOUR FACTS!
Do you know the signs of drug abuse?  Do you know the
dangers of underage drinking?  Do you know the laws
regarding social hosting?  If your client seems to need
help, do you know the local numbers to give them?

Is there a cost to be involved?
Nope, it's free, but there are huge rewards!  You get to
make a difference in the lives of young people, possibly
even saving their life.  Your business or your name will be
placed upon the website here, and will be highlighted as
an official partner of PPAC and the Hairdressers Alliance
for Youth!  We will connect future clients right to you!

What materials do I need?
PPAC will send you pamphlets, resource lists, and awareness stuff in the month of
March to get ready for Prom and Graduation season, when teens and young people are
starting to think about getting outside, going to parties and proms.  You set materials
out for your clients, making them easily accessible. Let them know you are an active
partner!

How do I get started?
Download the MOU, and email it to Shawnee Bigelow at
sbigelow@alleganycouncil.org.  Or you can give Shawnee a call directly at 585.593.1920
x721.

And then start gathering your business partners and employees together in March and
have a special meeting about this initiative.  Get your employees on board, so that
everyone is showing a positive united front!
