Allegany County Reality Check-is a movement made up of
teens ages 13-18, from every county in New York State, who
want to tell the Tobacco Industry that if they think they can
keep targeting New York teens without any resistance, they
need a reality check! Reality Check is a teen-led,
adult-supported youth movement that seeks to de-normalize
and de-glamorize tobacco use among teens. Reality Check
also empowers youth to expose the Tobacco Industry's
manipulative marketing practices that target youth to be
replacement smokers.
CAPP-ACCORD Corporation's Community Adolescent
Pregnancy Prevention (CAPP) program, funded by the NYS
Department of Health, aims to reduce pregnancy rates in
Cattaraugus and Allegany Counties by lessening the effects of
generational poverty to area youth. The program will strive to
increase youth access to reproductive health services,
education, recreation, and community service opportunities
while fostering a movement within the community that
supports positive relationships between youth and trusted
adult resources. Click here if you are an adult community
member interested in investing time in our youth, if you would
like to refer a youth to this program, or for more information
about the program.
Poverty Bridge-This special initiative combats generational
poverty! Youth are matched with successful people in
business and life to mentor them throughout their high school
years. They are encouraged and are provided opportunities to
intern, connect and network, or to just have someone to guide
them in the right direction! This project is a true collaborative
effort between ACCORD Corporation and PPAC. Adults who
want to participate (Navigators) have to go through a strict
background check and application process. Once chosen, 1-4
students will be paired with an adult to have frequent monthly
contact via phone, social networking, and/or one-on-one. For
more information, please contact us!

Allegany County Youth Summit-The Teen Advisory Board
comes together every year to help to organize the annual
Youth Summit. It's held at Alfred University and consists of
numerous projects on community service and leadership. It
ends with a active Youth Town Hall meeting where students
discuss the hot topics that effect them every day. Some
examples of this year's hot topics were prescription drug
abuse, teenage pregnancy, bullying, and peer pressure. If
you are interested in participating next year, please contact us!
Allegany County Youth Court-Positive peer pressure plays a
major role in our Court hearings at the Belmont Courthouse as
juvenile defendants must explain their conduct to Allegany
County students who serve as Judge, Bailiff, Defense,
Prosecution, Jury Foreperson, and Jury. These student
Youth Court members know the circumstances of life in
Allegany County and provide thoughtful and appropriate
sentences in each individual case. When youth participate in
the Youth Court process either as defendants or volunteers
they develop valuable skills that will help them become more
responsible and productive citizens. Several of our Youth
Court defendants that go through our program actually end up
joining as Youth Court members once their sanctions have
been completed successfully. If you would like to get
involved, contact Jessica Jennings at 585-268-7900, ext. 2142
Allegany County Teen Action Board-The Teen Action Board
is a teen-led countywide advisory board that seeks to bring
about awareness of drugs and alcohol use among youth.
Funded by ACCORD Corporation's 21st Century grant, six
Allegany County schools have appointed 14 students to
implement media awareness campaigns, community service
projects, and encourage good communication between young
people, parents, and communities. This exciting project is a
collaborative effort with Partners for Prevention in Allegany
County & the Allegany County Sheriffs Office. If you want to
get involved contact Tracy Broshar at 268-7605 x1219.
